Vermont Cancer Center Walking Tour of
Research & Patient Care Facilities

Please join us for a behind-the-scenes walking tour of the Vermont Cancer Center’s care facilities and research laboratories. This is a special opportunity to learn about the cutting-edge research and high-quality academic health care being carried out at the Vermont Cancer Center, which incorporates the University of Vermont College of Medicine research facilities and Fletcher Allen Health Care’s patient care areas.

The walking tour includes a visit to the Radiation Oncology patient care area at Fletcher Allen Health Care and the diagnostic and treatment areas of the Breast Care Center. The focus of the Radiation Oncology tour will be a treatment planning simulation and a demonstration of Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT).

Participants will also tour the Vermont Cancer Center’s research facilities at the University of Vermont. This portion of the tour focuses on one of our leading-edge cancer research laboratories as well as two technologies that are important in cancer research studies: Automated DNA sequencing and microarray (GeneChip) analysis. DNA sequencing technology was the driving force behind the early completion of the Human Genome Project. DNA microarray is a maturing technology that allows simultaneous analysis of over 25,000 genes in humans. These technologies, along with others, are changing the way providers approach medicine.

Registration for tours is available online or by calling (802) 656-2292. A free shuttle bus to Fletcher Allen’s Medical Center Campus will leave the Sheraton Conference Center entrance at 2:00 pm and return at approximately 4:15 pm. Space restrictions limit us to 24 persons for this tour, so be sure to sign up early!
